WHAT'S
REFLEXOLOGY?

Reflexology is a holistic practice that alleviates, lowers blood pressure, enhances heart function, and fosters a sense of calm in the body, mind, and spirit. It is performed by stimulating a fraction of the 250,000 nerve endings in each foot and hand. Reflexologists use reflex points located all over the body but mostly use points located in the feet, hands, and face. These reflex points correspond to every bone, gland, muscle and organ in the body, with approximately 7,200 reflex points on each foot and hand and 564 neurological points on the face. The goal of a reflexologist is to locate and palpate inflamed tissue in the neuromuscular system. This process supports the body’s natural healing capabilities and may help relieve pain and calm warm tissue.

Reflexology
The Purposes of Reflexology Includes:
1. Alleviating stress and tension.
2. Enhancing nerve, blood, and lymphatic circulation.
3. Promoting homeostasis and balance within body systems.

How Reflexology May Work:
1. Each hand and foot contain approximately 7,200 nerves with over 200,000 nerve endings.
2. Pressure is applied to reflex points where clusters of nerve endings are located.
3. The nerves transmit this stimulus to the brain.
4. The brain responds, sometimes resulting in pain in the neuromuscular area.
5. The body activates its own healing mechanisms.

Reflexology's Strengths:
1. It is a safe, non-invasive therapy with minimal medical contraindications.
2. It may reduce stress and tension.
3. It may support circulation and detoxification functions which may boost the immune system.

3. It can help identify areas of stress in the body and promote natural healing.
4. It may be of benefit to both chronic and acute health issues.

Reflexology's Scope:

1. Reflexologists do not diagnose or treat diseases.
2. Reflexology is a Complimentary Therapy. It should complement medical treatments, not replace them.
3. It does not alter the body's natural functioning and abilities.
